2018 Poseidon Festival in Bethany Beach

You’re invited to the 3rd Annual Poseidon Festival, Memorial Day Weekend, May 25th – 28th.  Enjoy 4 fun-filled days of island-inspired entertainment designed to celebrate the sea and educate on ways to prepare for potential coastal emergencies.

The event kicks off on Friday, May 25th at 6:00 p.m. on the Bandstand.  Listen to the SKA/reggae sounds of The Bullbuckers.  Then stick around for our first movie of the season featuring Pirates of the Caribbean:  Dead Men Tell No Tales at dusk.

The fun continues on Saturday, May 26th.  At 10:30 a.m. the Nature Center will host mermaid activities and a book signing by Nancy Sakaduski, author of The Mermaid in Rehoboth Bay.  Kids are encouraged to dress as their favorite sea creature to get a prize.

From 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. on the Bandstand Plaza attend an Emergency Meet and Greet with local experts on how to prepare for a potential coastal emergency.  See the Town’s Mobile Command Center, Search and Rescue (SAR) Jet ski, and Ranger UTV up close.  Lifeguards, police officers, firemen, and emergency personnel will be on hand to discuss ocean safety and distribute helpful handouts.

At 6:00 p.m. bask in the steel drum sounds of Trinidad North on the Bandstand followed by Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Parrotbeach at 7:30.

Sunday, May 27th return to the Bandstand from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. for the inaugural Bethany Beach Hermit Crab Derby.  Choose a crab to race or just watch the fun play out in this event run by the National Crab Racing Association and backed by Florida Marine Research.

The U.S. Navy Cruisers Band will finish out the day with a performance at 7:30.

On Monday, The VFW Post 7234 will conduct a Memorial Day service at 11:00 a.m. on the Bandstand.

Steel drum duo Island Fusion will close the festival from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Hang around for an impromptu limbo contest or conga line as we set the stage for another exciting summer season in the Town of Bethany Beach!

Retirement

March 26, 2018

Well it finally happened and I have officially retired after 15 years in the mortgage business in our resort towns. I’ve been contemplating this move for the past year and Sue & I decided that now is the right time to give up the stress and enjoy life more. I’m not getting any younger as most of you know 

I’m going to continue with the blog, writing mostly about local issues golf, and retirement life.  I know I will see most of you around our beautiful resort towns and I look forward to continuing the friendships that have developed over the years.

If you don’t see Sue & I at the Parkway, you’ll definitely be able to find me on the golf course somewhere.  All the very best to everyone one of you and thank you for all of your help and loyalty over the years.
